Multiple surgical societies and other organisations currently exist in South Africa representing various interest groups. These societies and organisations have significant synergies with each other and share many aims and goals with similar challenges, hence the need for a formalised relationship to tackle common interests.
These common interests include (but are not limited to):
- Surgical education
- Congresses
- Political influence
- Regulatory affairs
- Professional affairs
- Advocacy
- Patient advocacy and social responsiveness
- Marketing
- Private practice affairs
The development of a federation of surgical societies and similar organisations that is mutually beneficial to all and which would be used to address issues of a common interest. This will also result in the surgical societies having a stronger image and speaking with a unified voice.
A Federation of surgical societies and similar organisations was brought into being in a mutually beneficial relationship which will be used to address issues of common interest. With a united voice all member societies will having a stronger platform from which to tackle their important societal matters.
